JAKE is a volunteer organization aimed to help the growth of the local music scene without the use of social media. If you have any ideas or want to get involved please send us an email and we would be happy to collaborate. We cannot do JAKE without you, the reader. Thank you for your support and let's continue to make JAKE the best newsletter it can be.
Also, have any flyers that you'd like to see on the newsletter? Send them our way and you'll be sure to see them on next week's edition!

After 26 weeks we believe it is time for a change. Instead of a playlist (at least for now) J.A.K.E. will be promoting an artists band camp page instead of promoting Spotify. Click above to hear Oceanaire, a San Luis Obispo based band's 2019 release A New Place to Hide.

In an ever-evolving age of “new,” smartphones and social media dependency have been on the rise. Social media’s original intention was to connect us but has ultimately separated us further from each other. This newsletter comes to you to lessen your dependency on this isolating technology. We aim to move away from these vices and support those choosing to use the “dumb phone.” Using email rather than social media, this newsletter will supply information on events as well as updates on the music scene within SLO. Without social media, you risk missing out on real social events, but this newsletter will allow you to skip the FOMO and stay in the loop of everything going on in the central coast scene.
This newsletter will update you about shows, gigs, concerts and other events. It will also feature concert reviews, artist spotlights, weekly playlists, and more.

The rise in AI music, and especially Spotify's boost in AI music, is ruining a great music streaming platform. While streaming music has always been problematic and at the expense of the artist, it was convent and allowed so many great artist to share their art and gain exposer for what they were creating. Now, Spotify is choosing to push fake bands because they don't have to pay them (when they were already paying artists the bare minimum). I find this so sad because I have years of experience with Spotify, and have found so many good bands and artist because of the related artists and playlists that are on the site. I feel extremely conflicted in using the program, and especially promoting it through JAKE's weekly playlists.
Do you believe we should switch to a different form of weekly advertisement for music. A band camp shoutout? Links to different record labels and access to physical media? It is hard to find a good middle ground when JAKE is entirely electronic. We love physical media and want to push the purchasing and supporting of your favorite bands as much as possible. Remember that buying merch, whether cd's, vinyls, shirts, stickers, or anything else is the best way to support artists. Please continue to go to shows and stand up to Spotify's monopoly on music. We as a community of worldwide music enjoyers need to unify and show these corporations that you cannot manufacture art. Art is human expression and it is extremely dystopian to live in a world that is void of that. Support local artists - Support real artists!
